MEET OUR FEATURED DOG: GODDARD

Goddard is a Shih Tzu mix that weighs approximately 12 pounds and is around 10 years old. He came to the organization after his owner became ill and could no longer take care of him. He is house trained, walks well on the leash and is a world class cuddler! He has recently passed basic obedience class with ease and will soon be starting intermediate obedience class. Goddard also loves cats. Bordering on obsessive, he loves to watch cats and be very close to them. Although he will chase them when they run, he never shows aggression toward them. Alternatively, having been the only dog in his previous residence, he does not seem to care for the company of other dogs; growling at other dogs when they invade his personal space.

Goddard also does well in his home with visitors. He will often be found sitting on a visitors lap in the home shortly after their arrival, but does not like being approached by strangers. If approached to quickly, Goddard will growl and nip at the stranger. For this reason we do not suggest a home with small children. Although he has some quirks, this dog would make a great companion for someone who is willing to work with him.

Our adoption fee is $200.00, which includes all vaccines, heartworm test and spay/neuter.

If you are interested in Goddard or any of the other Animal Connections dogs please email us for more information or an application!

Animal Connections

The Humane Society of the Untied States estimates that of the 6-8 million cats and dogs that enter U.S. shelters each year, only 30% are reclaimed by their owners. Of those, approximately four million are euthanized. This equates to approximately one animal being euthanized every 8 seconds. Animal connections is a non-profit organization which rescues dogs, often from high-kill shelters, and fosters them until they find their forever homes. Recently we have taken on harder cases, including several sick and injured dogs. Any help that you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Donations and fosters are both currently needed. With your help we can continue our mission to minimize the number of dogs euthanized each year in shelters and find them their forever homes. The dogs shown here are in foster care. They often can be seen on weekends in Charlottesville at PET SUPPLIES PLUS (on Rt. 29 S and Greenbrier Dr.) HARRIS TEETER (Barracks Rd. Shopping Ctr.) or SPECIAL EVENTS Locations

Please reserve a space today for this important event. All Things Pawssible and Crate & Marrow have planned a fun and informative evening. They will have a donation jar for those who would like to contribute to providing quality food to our foster homes.

Dog Law Wiki Moves Ahead

Over a year ago, National Alliance for Dog Breeding Reform set out to create a publicly editable Wiki of dog laws—covering dog rescue, standards of care for dogs, and dog breeding.

We did it because we think such a database might help to ensure better treatment of dogs. We believe “knowledge is power” and it won’t hurt to help make dog law easier to find. The Wiki might also eventually help others to figure out which of the many laws work and which don’t.

Developer Josh Davis, of Made in Fort Worth, has built the wiki. We have started beta testing and will soon invite people to add local laws to it. To learn more about the Dog Law Wiki or NABR’s mission, visit https://www.facebook.com/NationalAllianceForDogBreedingReform/. Post by Ron Sturgeon, NADBR Senior VP.
